MEMORY JAZZ

MEMORY JAZZ

In the distance

Nurses voices twitter

Rise and fall

Like birds at evening

Their rhythmic music

Bringing peace

And sleep

She wears a low-neck moss-green gown

He’s in a brown fedora

And the blurred visitors

Wander appropriate rooms to

Make now time

Surrounded by summer fires

Light-box universe stung with shadows

Proof of G-d’s willing

In the dark spiraled pudding

Dream as

Elastic conversations

Glide between glittering groups of guests

Meanwhile

And always uncaring

The oceans steel grey tongue

Samples the thin edge of land

Swallows the still warm

Salt-stiff sand
